Dr Jinit Masania

University of Derby

Dr Jinit Masania is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of Derby, and also a Biochemist with a background in Synthetic chemistry. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry at University Collage London in 2010 and then took up a postdoctoral position at the University of Warwick, where he was involved in a large-scale (10 million pounds) integrating research project funded by the European Commission through its Seventh Framework Programme. Jinit has industrial connections with 3M pharmaceuticals and NAPP pharmaceutical, and is an associate member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, executive member of the Midlands Mass Spectrometry Group and a member of the Covid 19 Mass Spectrometry coalition. He also holds a patent in biomarkers of Urinary Health Screening. Jinit's main areas of research involve: identifying health markers for different disease states, metabolomics and proteomics, using mass spectrometry. Predominately looking at protein glycation and detoxification by the glyoxalase system via protein damage makers and amino acids. Synthesis of novel biomarkers for targeted metabolomics. Identifying biomarkers in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in mechanisms of cellular senescence.
