Romanian is a Neo-Latin language with an important Slavonic influence. It is the official language of Romania and Moldova (also called Moldovan), and has a fascinating grammatical system based on genders and endings for plurals, verb conjugations and cases. The vocabulary is based mainly on Latin, but often with a corresponding Slavonic pair. Romanian reflects the mode of thinking of its speakers through a rich and varied set of sayings, idioms and popular literature. The language has regional variants, influenced by history and geography, and you can learn all about this if you study Romanian at UCL.
Romanian can be studied as a single Honours degree, or in combination with another language or even another subject, such as mathematics or geography. If you are inspired by language learning and enjoy exploring the similarities and differences between languages, these degree programmes offer you an opportunity to embrace a cultural, historical and socio-political approach to language learning with expert teachers.
