Course snapshot
Anglia Ruskin University’s LLB (Hons) Law degree programme will provide you with the seven core foundations of legal knowledge, whilst also providing an array of opportunities to hone sophisticated legal research and communication skills, both inside and outside the classroom. The programme meets the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for a career as a solicitor or barrister in the UK, as well as giving you discounted access to the BARBRI SQE preparation courses. You can also gain further qualification by applying to the National Association of Licenced Paralegals as a Graduate Member when you finish your degree.
You can study Law at either of ARU’s Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough campuses. In your first year, you will develop a core grounding in the UK’s law and legal systems and begin building your legal skills in fact handling, case reading and research. In your second year, the focus will remain on building your legal skills in research and communication within a variety of optional modules, as well as being introduced to two important areas of law: equity and trusts, and tort. Your third year will allow you to further explore your specific legal interests with modules spanning property and employment law, criminal litigation and equality and diversity. A large focus of your third year will be putting your research skills into practice by completing your Major Project.
ARU will help you boost your employability within a competitive sector, with opportunities such as their Legal Work Experience module, professional mentoring scheme, and undergraduate researcher scheme available in your second year. You can also work on real-life legal cases under the supervision of qualified solicitors by participating in Law Clinics in Cambridge and Chelmsford. Furthermore, the ARU Certificate for Professional Development helps you gain the skills employers are looking for. ARU’s Law programme also offers a foundation year option, as well as the chance to study a language alongside your legal studies.
