The university, in its truest sense, can be traced back to 1901 as Sunderland Technical College and has since developed into the multi-million pound institution that you see today. The University of Sunderland is made up of four main campuses, two based in Sunderland itself, one in central London and the other in Hong Kong. The university was voted England's Best New University in 2001 by the Guardian and won University of the Year for Social Inclusion in 2021.
